"More than a warmed heart, but never less"

Most Methodists know that on 24 May 1738, in Aldersgate
Street, London, John Wesley felt “his heart strangely
warmed”.
And so it is that, during this time in our Methodist Calendar
– “Wesley month”, that I write to remind you to take our
Wesleyan heritage seriously. Not only John Wesley’s
“warmed heart” experience, but also the mission he
engaged in - spreading the Gospel by helping the poor,
healing the sick, encouraging the disturbed, and
proclaiming holiness.
Let us continue to live the legacy left by our Founder, by
helping and supporting our community. As it is said in
Xhosa, izandla ziyagezana – my hand washes yours.
As we live and work to enhance the dignity of all people,
most especially the poor, let us take care to help, not just
those who need us, but those who need us most.
