The followers of Jesus waited in Jerusalem as they had been directed by Jesus to do. They were discovering that being prepared to follow the Way of Jesus requires both ability AND availability... Ability or capability is the God's work, and through the power of the Spirit, we are enabled to do things far beyond our expectations!
But God will not "take over" our bodies. God works in powerful ways, but never at the expense of our freedom, intelligence or dignity! God waits for our availability - till we are willing.
Consider Colossians 4:2-6 Are we willing to pray for a person who is far from God? Will we be faithful in prayer and patient in waiting for the "door of opportunity" to open? (v2-3)
Are will willing to speak - to tell the story of our relationship with God in Jesus? (v4)
Are will willing to recognise that our lives are the greatest message we will ever convey? (v5)
Are we willing to make our first words gracious words - without judgment or condemnation?(v6)
Not everyone is called to preach or to evangelise (e.g. like Billy Graham) but eveyone is called to be a witness - someone who bears witness to the reality of their experience of God. (Acts 1:8)
