The Prodigal Son....The Loving Father

Today's Gospel reading comes as powerful reminder that
Lent is not so much about what we are doing for God, but
about what God is doing for us.
In this passage, we are reminded that God does not merely
forgive us and allow us to come home; God not only runs out
to meet us and has a feast to celebrate; but God is
constantly watching for us, calling to us, actively looking for
us, always seeking for ways to draw us in and bring us home.
Perhaps this poem by “prettyspl” will help us to read the
Gospel today with new insight:
Come Home
You’re out there in the cold trying to find your way in the dark,
Knowing this is literally breaking my heart. I want you here with
me, with us ... happy, safe and warm.

But you’re out of reach, your soul lost to a darkness that never
sleeps.

You don't hear the beating of my heart, The sound of my voice,
My cries in the night.

My prayers go unanswered ... the silence is deafening; The pain
unbearable and it cuts so deep. Where are you!?!

I wait for you to come home, Back to where you belong, With
me, with us, Happy, safe and warm.
Rod
