On Sunday we looked at the encounter between the rich young ruler and Jesus from Mark chapter 10 and it was a difficult passage ,as Jesus teaching here is not something we really relish to hear!
Jesus is saying that we need to detach ourselves from all our possessions as we will never find our significance in them, they tell us a different story and want us to believe that the more we have the more significant we are in the community, andhere's a thought, even in God's eyes maybe?That's a lie that many believe....
Kerryn and Viv shared some of their journey with Jesus with us and that was so helpful- Viv shared that there was a time that he sat in the back row and made sure that the minister knew that he was in church, but he came because he thought he would get the big stick if he did not attend ,but as he has dicovered the longing in his heart for God ,he has moved from the back row to a place where he is more visable and now wants to come to worship God, feels blessed to be part of this community and found it a very significant moment to be speaking about his longing with the community yesterday! We all felt that, Viv.
Kerryn shared that the words of the anthem each week rang in her heart all week and the melody and the words kept her focused and alive to God.
Traci Huisman shared at the 9.45 service that she has learnt solid lessons from" so-called" important people who treat ordinary folk with dignity and respect, for this is where we are able to find significance and a sense of contentment.
We were all challenged and my prayer is that we will allow this teaching to bear fruit in our lives.
