Sitting at the feet of Jesus...

For the next few weeks we will be learning from Jesus, through His questions, His life, and all the values that He embraced. So we are in for an exciting and perhaps at times, even challenging, moments!

On Sunday 31 Dec we looked at the passage in Luke’s gospel chap2 verses 41 to 51.It tells the story of Jesus with the teachers in the temple when He was 12 years old.

So let’s gather round Jesus and become part of the conversation.... “Jesus, is God really worth praising, as the psalmist tells us in Psalm 148?” Jesus answers with a question: “What is your definition of power?”

Well, what is our definition of power?

It was interesting as I took a few minutes to ponder this question - so try reflecting on what you feel about power….

Jesus answers this question as He lives His life - He lives the answer - He constantly takes up His cross of sacrificial love, and it culminates with the day that He chose to pick up a wooden cross and walk up the hill outside the gates of Jerusalem and He chose to live the power of God for all humanity to see, to receive and hopefully to begin to live.

God’s power is best explained in one word - Love.

This teaching from Jesus is so challenging as we begin the new year, as the world offers us so many interesting definitions of power- so let’s take some time before everything begins to get busy and contemplate Jesus’ teaching.

May we be open and ready to learn from Jesus in this new year.
