It is such a pleasure to celebrate fathers in a joyful, thankful way. But I was pulled up short by the sudden awareness that there are far too many fatherless children in this beautiful country of ours. Children have grown up in environments that have not nurtured them, they have had no loving father-figure in their lives to guide them, comfort them, support them, to show them how to be strong yet gentle, to be bold in fighting for what is right but with understanding and tolerance, to be compassionate and caring, to respect their families, others, and especially themselves. And yet…….we have many fathers who are all of these things and whilst we humbly pray for our nation to grow in wholeness with whole families, we can celebrate with those whose lives have been nurtured in the loving arms of their fathers……..
What Makes A Dad
God took the strength of a mountain,
The majesty of a tree,
The warmth of a summer sun,
The calm of a quiet sea,
The generous soul of nature,
The comforting arm of night,
The wisdom of the ages,
The power of the eagle's flight,
The joy of a morning in spring,
The faith of a mustard seed,
The patience of eternity,
The depth of a family need,
Then God combined these qualities,
When there was nothing more to add,
He knew His masterpiece was complete,
And so, He called it ... Dad (Anon)
