A View from the Pew...

As we sat in the pew a few Sunday’s ago we reflected on the
large number of people who contribute in various ways to the
life of the church, and make the act of worship very
meaningful for each one.
Coming in the front door we were met with a friendly greeting
by a door steward who asked after our health and hoped we
would enjoy the service. To make sure that members are
met, they come on duty at least half an hour before the
service begins. Sitting down in the pew we look around the
church and see the magnificent and inspiring floral
arrangements done by the flower ladies, all skillfully arranged
to give a pleasing display. Soon the choir is heard singing
the introit to help centre our thoughts on the service to
follow. A little later they will sing the anthem accompanied
by the organ which has been rehearsed for several Thursdays,
with voices that are dedicated to praising God. Seated in the
corner of the church are the audio controllers who project on
the screen the hymns and any other relevant information for
the congregation. They have to be very aware of what is
going on as items can be changed at the last moment. We
gave a thought for the collection stewards, those who
prepared the teas and coffees, the bulletin folders, the
cleaners and those who prepared the communion services.
All these people assisted to make the service flow and
contribute to a time of worship and meditation, helped by the
preacher whose message was uplifting and challenging.
