So I was watching television last night, and one of the advertisements made me think a little. I’m sure you know the one, disgusting looking bugs crawling on the screen until they get sprayed, and someone says, “Kills bugs dead” in a big manly voice.
We don’t like bugs, do we?
It made me think of how we tend to address ‘sticky’ situations in our lives. Why do we look for the easiest way to make problems just go away, does it mean we win? Or do the bugs keep coming back? Wouldn’t it perhaps be more rewarding to tackle issues head on and actually deal with these problems?
This brings me to our current series on creation. If God left us in charge of this earth, we as Christians should be so much more concerned with the well-being of our planet. But so often it’s ‘out there’ or on the news or in language full of big words that we don’t really comprehend. However, as Rod mentioned last week, its right here and right now. Not just in South Africa, but right here in Port Elizabeth, along our own beautiful coastline. There’s no denying it’s a worldwide issue, and we are just as much a part of it as anyone else. And no matter how much we think we can ignore the problem with our ‘don’t-make-me-do-anything-about-it-just-go-away’ spray, we can’t! The destruction that we’ve inflicted on our home has caused massive concerns that are not going to go away, and we need to take action, every small step counts.
Even if you are already doing something to help, my question is, what else can we do? Maybe if every person just took a little extra responsibility, we can maintain the beauty of our environment.
