The Future - on purpose!

I have been serving at St Johns for over 3 (nearly 4 ) years now. In that time I have tried with limited success to facilitate an honest and intentional conversation about the future of our community. In simple terms, the question goes like this: what do we think St John's will look like in the year 2020?

One thing I know is that change is always happening. And so, either we change and develop intentionally - controlling the changes and guiding our community toward a future we believe in OR circumstances and forces outside our control will take us somewhere... Are we shaping the future or is the future shaping us?

Most communities experience change in negative ways because they don't prepare and move intentionally. They find themselves forced into change because they failed to live with intention. This is why leadership is so important. Leadership flows out of our desire to move forward into our shared future with intention - living on purpose rather than by accident.

Our Leadership Meeting on the 25th August (starting at 7pm in the Lower Hall) is a regular meeting which calls on the people of St John's to reflect on our future and to live ON PURPOSE. We will be discussing significant issues relating to our short and long-term future as a church. At St John's, we believe that leadership is a shared responsibility! I look forward to seeing you all there!

  2. We have to live on purpose otherwise the world will tell how, when and what to. Change is inevitable. We can't run away from it, it will find us. How we deal with change is what matters. We can be a positive part of that change and experience the excitement of growth or we can be dragged kicking and screaming and then wonder why we feel injured and small. We have to live ON PURPOSE....so purposely LIVE!
St. John's future is in our hands.
