is there enough to go around?

October is a month of Thanksgiving!

On Sunday morning I suggested that people of faith life their lives from a central core conviction that God will Provide all that we need.

In fact, the shocking statistics that I presented on Sunday suggest that there is more than enough oxygen, water, food, land and money to sustain life on the planet. God has provided!!!

But the statistics also show how the world's resources are being hoarded by a rich elite who have not embraced the faith conviction that God provides for all.


In reflecting on scripture, I referred to Exodus 16, where we read about God's provision of food for the Israelites during their journey through the desert. I identified three "Manna principles" which we would do well to learn and apply to our lives today:

1. There is enough for all – there is no need to compete or hoard or guard. “Hoarding stinks”
   
   
2. Only take enough for today (we see this principle again in Jesus' teaching in Matt 6 – "do not worry about tomorrow", and in his prayer: "Give us today our daily bread"). Taking more than you need suggests a lack of confidence that God will provide (again)...

3. God provides enough to allow for us to Rest (on the seventh day) – God’s provision extends beyond just our working life, to include time to rest and to enjoy life and relationships and interests.

May we find Peace as we together share and live generously, from a central conviction that God will provide!
