the heart of it all

we've been talking about the core values that will shape our lives and the life of our community of faith - St John's.

We've been reflecting on the various circles of the St John's cross and we've considered some of the things that we should be DOING - building community, serving the city, living with integrity (living the learning) and following Jesus. But life has a way of getting busy. It's no different in the spiritual life. We get busy and before we know it we're working and serving as if the Kingdom of God depended on US!!! The heart of the St John's Cross is that we "Honour God in Worship". Worship is a Sabbath activity. It is primarily about Rest - not about work or doing things. To worship is to rest in God - to place the focus on God and God's ability - and to allow ourselve to rest knowing that ultimately things don't depend on us (Thank God!!!)

I hope that in all the business of this coming Holy Week, there will be an enduring sense of Rest - arising from our growing confidence in God. May we honour the God who holds all things in His Hands!
